The City of Whitehorse has many parks and bushland reserves to explore including the formal Box Hill Gardens and the richly bio-diverse bushland parks. Like street trees, our park trees are also inspected and maintained by professional arborists.
In some bushland areas, large old trees and dead stags are retained as vital habitat for birds and mammals. Large old trees and dead stags were once much more common and tree hollows are now is short supply.
Once each year for National Tree Day, Council organises a community planting day so that everyone can participate in tree planting and have the joy of watching a tree grow. Planting trees in parks and reserves other than at this organised event is discouraged as often we find people plant unsuitable species that then have to be removed.
