Wildlife, Guests and Pests

Many native and introduced birds and animals live in our neighbourhoods and backyards. We want to encourage the well-being of local native wildlife, welcome guests such as cats, dogs, poultry and honey bees and reduce the impact of introduced pest species.

In Whitehorse we are lucky to share our suburbs with many species of wildlife such as Eastern Rosellas, Sugar Gliders and Skinks. There are lots of actions we can take to support our local biodiversity.

Our guests include our companion animals such as cats, dogs, horses and livestock as well as poultry and honey bees to provide us with meat, eggs and honey or good company.

Birds, other animals and weeds not native to the Whitehorse area and which are unhelpful to residents or the environment should be handled carefully and not allowed to grow or spread.
