Up-to-date pet registration information has the following benefits for pets and their owners:
- Reuniting lost pets with their owners - To help Council and pet shelters reunite you with your lost pet, it is important to keep your contact details (including microchip details) up to date.
- Managing pet registration renewal - Contact council if you no longer have your pet or you have moved home. You will no longer receive a registration renewal letter for those pets.
Choose this option to tell us if:
- You and your pet have moved home or your contact details have changed
- You no longer have your pet
- Your pet has lost its Lifetime Pet Registration Tag.

If your pet is currently registered with another Victorian council, you can transfer your pet registration (free for the current registration period):
Step 1. Prepare Your Documents
You will need a Certificate of Current Registration which can be obtained from the Council where the animal is currently registered.
NOTE: A Pet Registration Renewal Notice from that Council is not sufficient.
NOTE: The transferred registration is only valid until the next 10 April. You will be sent a Whitehorse registration renewal reminder prior to that date.

Your submission will be reviewed within five business days.

A pet’s Registration Class determines if you are eligible for a pet registration discount.
Step 1. Prepare Your Documents
To change your pet's Registration Class, you will need to provide supporting evidence. Refer to the table below to see what documents you will need for each class.

Farm Working Dog |
Your dog must herd, drove, protect, tend or work stock on land used solely or primarily used for primary production. You must provide the PIC number; or proof that the property the animal is working at is used for primary production (i.e. ATO document). |
Game Management Authority (GMA) Hound | A copy of the owner and animal details from the Game Management Authority. Refer to www.gma.vic.gov.au for further information. |
Cat or Dog Under Three Months of Age | Provide the pet’s birth certificate or a letter from your vet. |
Declared Menacing Dogs | No discount applies. |
Declared Dangerous and Restricted Breed Dogs | Contact Council for more information. |
