Update Your Pet Registration Details

Up-to-date pet registration information has the following benefits for pets and their owners:

Reuniting lost pets with their owners - To help Council and pet shelters reunite you with your lost pet, it is important to keep your contact details (including microchip details) up to date.
Managing pet registration renewal - Contact council if you no longer have your pet or you have moved home. You will no longer receive a registration renewal letter for those pets.

Choose this option to tell us if:

You and your pet have moved home or your contact details have changed
You no longer have your pet
Your pet has lost its Lifetime Pet Registration Tag.

NOTE: To help us reunite you with a lost pet, you should also update your microchip registration company whenever your contact details change. Council does not update microchip information. Visit www.petaddress.com.au if you have forgotten or lost the information regarding which microchip registration company your pet is listed with.

Transfer Pet Registration from another Victorian Council

Before Applying

NOTE: If your pet is currently NOT registered in Victoria, please refer to the Register Your Dog for the First Time (LINK) or Register Your Cat for the First Time (LINK).

NOTE: This option is ONLY to be used for animals currently registered at another Council OUTSIDE the Whitehorse City Council area.

If your pet is currently registered with another Victorian council, you can transfer your pet registration (free for the current registration period):

Step 1. Prepare Your Documents

You will need a Certificate of Current Registration which can be obtained from the Council where the animal is currently registered.

NOTE: A Pet Registration Renewal Notice from that Council is not sufficient.

NOTE: The transferred registration is only valid until the next 10 April. You will be sent a Whitehorse registration renewal reminder prior to that date.

Step 2. Complete the Online Form

Your submission will be reviewed within five business days.

Transfer of Pet Ownership within Whitehorse

Before Applying

NOTE: This option is ONLY to be used for animals currently registered at Whitehorse City Council and you plan to transfer pet ownership to another person within the Whitehorse City Council area.

NOTE: DO NOT use this form to transfer ownership for a pet registered in another Council.

NOTE: If your pet is currently NOT registered in Victoria, please refer to the Register Your Dog for the First Time or Register Your Cat for the First Time OR if you are transferring pet registration from another Victorian Council, refer to Transfer Pet Registration from another Victorian Council

Update Your Pet’s Registration Class

A pet’s Registration Class determines if you are eligible for a pet registration discount.

Step 1. Prepare Your Documents

To change your pet's Registration Class, you will need to provide supporting evidence. Refer to the table below to see what documents you will need for each class.

Registration Class	Proof Required
Full Fee Cat or Dog	Unless you provide proof of an entitlement for a reduced fee, your pet's registration fee will be the full fee.
Full Fee Cat or Dog - Concession	If you provide proof you hold a Pensioner, War Widow Entitlement or TPI card, your pet's registration fee will be reduced. NOTE: Health Care and Concession cards are not accepted.
Reduced Fee Cat or Dog	Reduced registration fees apply if your pet is: Desexed – Provide a copy of the desexing invoice or a letter from your vet. Over 10 years old – Provide the animal birth certificate or a letter from your vet. Used for breeding by proprietor of Domestic Animal Business – Provide a letter from a registered Domestic Animal Business. Registered with an applicable organisation- Provide a copy of the animal’s organisation registration along with a copy of owner’s membership documentation. Dogs are certified obedience trained – Provide a copy of your Dog Obedience Certificate issued by a registered training organisation. Refer to the Agriculture Victoria web site for further information. Dogs are kept for working stock. Your dog must herd, drove, protect, tend or work stock on land used solely or primarily used for primary production. You must provide the PIC number; or proof that the property the animal is working at is used for primary production (i.e. ATO document).

Cat or Dog Transferring from Another Victorian Council	If your pet is currently registered with another Victorian Council. NOTE: A Certificate of Registration is a document that needs to be obtained from the Council where the animal is currently registered. A Pet Registration Renewal Notice from that Council is not sufficient. NOTE: The registration fee will be waived for the current registration period only.
Guide Dog	A letter from the Guide Dog training facility you obtained the dog.
Guide Dog Puppy Carer	A letter from the Guide Dog training facility.
Assistance Dogs	A declaration from a health professional that will verify the disability and the need for an assistance dog to support the disability, OR; A written recommendation from and/or a declaration by the relevant treating medical practitioner. They will need to verify the disability and the need for an assistance dog to support the disability; AND A declaration from a dog trainer that the dog has completed dog training in both assistance skills and obedience; AND A veterinary advice letter confirming the dog's birth date and desexed status. Government Authority Dog	A copy of a letter on letterhead from the government authority signed by your manager.
Farm Working Dog	Your dog must herd, drove, protect, tend or work stock on land used solely or primarily used for primary production. You must provide the PIC number; or proof that the property the animal is working at is used for primary production (i.e. ATO document).
Game Management Authority (GMA) Hound	A copy of the owner and animal details from the Game Management Authority. Refer to www.gma.vic.gov.au for further information.
Cat or Dog Under Three Months of Age	Provide the pet’s birth certificate or a letter from your vet.
Declared Menacing Dogs	No discount applies.
Declared Dangerous and Restricted Breed Dogs	Contact Council for more information.

Other ways to Update Your Pet Registration Details

Other ways to update pet registration details must be made in writing by:

Email Council attaching all relevant supporting documentation to customer.service@whitehorse.vic.gov.au

NOTE: We’ll respond in writing by email to any provided email address. Please regularly check for a message from Council in both your email inbox and junk mailbox.

Letter

Post a letter to Council with your supporting evidence to:

Whitehorse City Council, Locked Bag 2, Nunawading DC, NUNAWADING VIC 3131.

In Person

Provide all relevant supporting documentation at a Council Services Centre.
