Whitehorse City Council supports the use of temporary signs to promote community events and some real estate activities.

Temporary Event Signage

Permit applications will be considered for the erection of signs/display boards or banners at the designated spaces listed below to promote local, not for profit organisations, or community events that are being conducted within the municipality. Temporary event signs may be installed at the following locations:

  • RHL Sparks Reserve - NW corner of Middleborough and Canterbury Roads
  • Surrey Park - NE corner of Canterbury and Elgar Roads
  • Forest Hill Reserve - SE corner of Canterbury and Springvale Roads
  • Road Reserve - SE corner of Mitcham and East Doncaster Roads
  • Whitehorse Civic Centre frontage – Eastern end - Whitehorse Civic Centre events only
  • Or at another nominated location such as where the event is being held. NOTE: This is subject to Council approval.

Under the Victorian Planning Scheme Clause 52_05 Advertising Signs, temporary signs includes signs that may require a Whitehorse City Council Community Local Law permit. The following table explains the types of signs that can be displayed and which signs require a Community Local Law permit.

NOTE: The proposed signage must be installed for a maximum of 21 days prior to the event

Impounded Signs

Any displayed without a valid permit may be impounded by an authorised officer. Penalties may also apply.

Littering

Without prior written approval, Bill posting (posters) and the handing out of material associated with the event without a permit may be considered littering and will be dealt with under the relevant provisions of the Environment Protection Act 2017. Penalties may apply for any breaches detected.
