Council has partnered with Box Hill Institute to offer work placement opportunities for students with intellectual and cognitive disabilities. |
The participants are mainly school leavers currently undertaking Certificate I and II in Work Education courses. Work placement opportunities for this year’s cohort will begin in Term 3, with further opportunities expected next year.
People with disabilities don’t always have the same opportunities to explore job roles. Work placements provide valuable opportunities for them to explore job roles and develop an understanding of work practices and expectations.
It is hoped our partnership will help reduce the unemployment rate of people with a disability in the community.
According to the latest statistics from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 48 per cent of people with a disability aged 15 to 64 years were employed compared with 80 per cent of people without disability.
