Your council, your vote
Council elections are managed by the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) and are conducted entirely by post – a safe and completely secret method of voting.
Local council general elections are held every four years and the latest Council election was held on Saturday October 26 2024.

We strongly encourage all eligible voters to vote. Voting is compulsory for State-enrolled Australian citizens aged 18 years or older, and you may be fined if you don’t vote. Check your enrolment or contact the VEC on 131 832.

Who must vote
Voting is compulsory for Whitehorse residents who are:
- aged 18 years or older,
- an Australian citizen,
- have lived in Victoria for at least one month, and
- are enrolled on the State roll for an address in the Whitehorse municipality
