Reflecting on Sorry Day and honouring reconciliation

Published: Friday 30 May 2025

In a moving act of remembrance and reconciliation, members of the Whitehorse community came together for a National Sorry Day Flag Raising Ceremony on Monday 26 May.

Led by Wurundjeri Elder Uncle Colin Hunter Junior and Councillor Jarrod Gunn, the event at Nangnak Garden Nunawading acknowledged the impact of past injustices on First Peoples. It celebrated the strength and survival of the world’s oldest living culture.

Attendees enjoyed a thought-provoking discussion on First Peoples’ artwork, including the nocturnal animal sculptures outside The Round.

This event marked the beginning of Reconciliation Week and aligned with this year’s theme: Bridging Now to Next.
