The Harrow Street Car Park Redevelopment in Box Hill will start in coming weeks with Whitehorse Council recently awarding the building contract to leading Australian construction firm Buxton Construction (Vic) Pty Ltd.

Whitehorse Mayor Cr Andrew Davenport said the new five-level car park will comprise of 562 car parking spaces, bicycle parking, dedicated community space and welcoming plaza entry adjoining the local Pioneer Park.

“We are looking forward to bringing to fruition Council’s vision to transform the old Harrow Street Car Park into an attractive and light-filled building that will provide flexible, accessible and safe car parking opportunities for workers, shoppers and other visitors, while enhancing the commercial sustainability and vibrancy of Box Hill Central.” Cr Davenport said.

“Buxton Construction is at the forefront of the construction industry, with many awards for building excellence across a wide range of large private and public sector projects.

“We are thrilled to partner with such an accomplished construction firm as Buxton Construction on this exciting project.”

Upon completion, there will be a net increase of 271 car parking spaces in Box Hill central.

Construction of the car park is expected to take place from mid-October 2018 to mid-2019.

Throughout this period, Buxton Constructions will keep local traders and residents informed of any changes to pedestrian or traffic movements, and mitigate against any potential construction impacts such as noise and dust, in accordance with their Construction Management Plan.

To ensure motorists have continuity of car parking during construction, the Cambridge Street Car Park, on the opposite side of the road, will continue operating until the new Harrow Street Car Park opens in mid-2019.
