Works alert - Creswick Lane and Churchill Street

As part of preparation for major works, the Level Crossing Removal Project need to carry out further site investigations in Creswick Lane and continue with vegetation removal works in Churchill Street.

Works taking place

On Tuesday 8 February, there will be one day of work between 7am and 6pm on Creswick Lane to carry out non-destructive digging as part of site investigation work.

On Thursday 10 and Friday 11 February, there will be removal of small plants, shrubs and trees adjacent to the rail corridor fence line between Salisbury Avenue and Creswick Lane so we can install new rail power, signalling and communications cables. Stump grinding activities will also be carried out on Churchill Street during this period.

For details about trees that are to be retained or removed, please refer to the previous notices and further information at levelcrossings.vic.gov.au

At the conclusion of the project, the Level Crossing Removal Project will install extensive new landscaping with 52,000 new trees, shrubs and plants across the project. For every tree removed, two new trees in the local area will be planted.

What to expect

From 7am to 6pm on Tuesday 8 February, Creswick Lane will be temporarily closed under the rail bridge while site investigation works are carried out. Access will be maintained to driveways at all times, with local detours in place via Elgar Road, Whitehorse Road and Zetland Road.

Additionally, from 7am to 6pm each day on Thursday 10 and Friday 11 February, there will be a temporary road closure on a section of Churchill Street between Salisbury Avenue and Creswick Lane to ensure the safety of our workforce and the public.

  • Local resident access to driveways will be maintained with the assistance of traffic control staff, upon request
  • Local detours will be in place

Other impacts of these works include:

  • Construction noise and activity, with vehicles, machinery and workers on site
  • Minor delays for vehicles are expected while these works are carried out

Road users are advised to drive with care and follow the direction of traffic control and signage in place.

The majority of work will take place during normal construction hours, 7am – 6pm Monday to Friday and 7am – 1pm on Saturdays. Notice will be provided if any works need to take place outside of these times.

Please be aware that works can sometimes take longer than expected due to weather and other factors.
