Aims of Awards
- To promote and foster pride in, and recognition of, outstanding achievements which advance our national goals and values
- To develop an appreciation of the diversity and depth of personal and community achievement within the youth of Whitehorse
- To promote and recognise community cohesiveness and concern for members of the community
- To provide positive role models for all young Australians

How to Nominate Someone for the Award
- Complete the Young Person of the Month Nomination Form, providing as much information as you can in each of the relevant sections
- Arrange for the Nominee (the young person you are nominating) to fill in the Authority Form and provide approval for their image to be used in promotion of the award (i.e. the Whitehorse News, Council’s digital platforms and other promotional documents that maybe produced)
- Arrange for the Nominee to provide a clear, digital image (JPEG preferred) of themselves, preferably doing an activity they enjoy (please forward an image of only the nominee – don’t include others)

Criteria
- Nominees must be Australian citizens and unless there are exceptional circumstances, must be residents of Australia
- Young persons who have made a noteworthy contribution to the local community during the current year and or over a number of years
- Contributions can be in any area including sport, academic, arts or community participation
- The nominee shall be an individual under 27 years of age on January 26 next
- The nominee must either reside, study, work or participate in the Whitehorse Community in some other significant way, to be eligible
- Nominations will be received and considered on a monthly basis by the Whitehorse Youth Representative Committee, who will promote nominations according to the above criteria
- In general there will be one monthly award winner, although the Committee reserves the right to promote more than one nominee where quality of application is deemed appropriate
- Each monthly winner/s will then be included for consideration for the Young Citizen of the Year Award to be decided by Council at its December Council meeting. Council will choose one winner from the final round of nominees to be deemed the Whitehorse Young Citizen of the Year on the basis of outstanding service, principally to the local community in any field considered appropriate by Council. The decision of Council in relation to the community awards is final and no correspondence will be entered into in respect of that decision
- The Young Citizen of the Year Award will be presented during Australia Day celebrations on 26 January next, in conjunction with the Citizen of the Year Award and Community Achievement Awards
