Whitehorse News - November 2023
Council’s arts department has bid a warm farewell to its longstanding curator of Whitehorse Artspace, Jacquie Nichols-Reeves, who has retired after 33 years of service.
Ms Nichols-Reeves made a remarkable contribution to the growth and expansion of Council’s Art Collection. She was curator at Artspace for 20 years (since 2003) and oversaw numerous exhibitions of contemporary and historical art, making a profound contribution to the cultural life of our city.
Ms Nichols-Reeves was also deeply involved in the Artists in Schools Program, in which Council funds and organises opportunities for professional artists to complete artistic projects in school environments.
Marguerite Brown has taken over from Ms Nichols-Reeves as Artspace’s new Curator. She comes to Whitehorse with extensive experience working in curatorship and arts management, including as a former director of the Print Council of Australia.
Ms Brown also previously received a scholarship from the British Museum and worked in its prints and drawings department for almost a year.
“My passion for creating engaging exhibitions and projects has been a driving force of my career to date, and I can’t wait to work with the talented creative community in Whitehorse to generate an exciting exhibition program for Whitehorse Artspace at Box Hill Town Hall.”
