Works taking place in June

Major construction works are underway and will continue throughout 2022. The boom gates will be gone for good and the new station will be open in 2023.

Details

Churchill Street and Creswick Lane

Construction of a new overhead structure foundations will commence in the laneway off Creswick Lane in June. Traffic management will be in place and there will be no pedestrian or vehicle access to the laneway. Between 7am and 6pm on Wednesday 8 June a temporary road closure will be in place on Churchill Street adjacent to Mont Albert Station to set up a crane and lift large concrete pits into the site. A road closure is currently in place for vehicles travelling eastbound on Churchill Street until mid-2022.

Hamilton Street car park

Traffic management and closure of some car spaces will be required in the rear section of the Hamilton Street car park adjacent to the rail corridor while service investigation works and micro test piling are carried out in June.

Beresford Street and High Street

Works to complete the power pole relocation will take place on Friday 17 June on Beresford Street between Mont Albert Road and High Street. The works will be undertaken by United Energy and their contractors. United Energy will provide impacted properties with further details, including information about any interruption to the power supply and how to contact them if you have any further queries about the work.

Mont Albert Road

United Energy and their contractors will carry out work on Mont Albert Road on Sunday 19 June. An eastbound lane closure will be in place between Leopold and Gordon streets. Watermain works will be undertaken on Mont Albert Road between Wednesday 15 June and Friday 17 June and Monday 20 June and Friday 24 June. An eastbound lane closure will be in place between Leopold and Gordon streets.

United Energy and their contractors will remove a power pole at the corner of Mont Albert Road and Lorne Parade in June. Lane closures and traffic management will be in place during this work.

Traffic management and partial lane closures will be required at times at the level crossing while works are carried out.

Beresford Street

Piling will continue along Beresford Street throughout June. Beresford Street will remain closed to vehicles between Montrose Street and Mont Albert Road. Pedestrian access will be maintained. Some trimming of overhanging tree branches will be required in Beresford Street for the safe passage of machinery to our work site. Traffic management will be in place and the temporary closure of some on-street car parks may be required.

Lorne Parade

Excavation and trenching works to relocate drainage services will continue from Friday 17 June. While this work is undertaken, Lorne Parade will be closed to through traffic day and night. On-street parking and driveway access will be temporarily closed between 8 and 26 Lorne Parade for approximately four weeks from Friday 17 June. In June, work will commence to build a vehicle and machinery access area adjacent to the rail corridor. A temporary water interruption is scheduled between 9am and 2pmon Thursday 16 June while work is undertaken in close proximity to the existing watermain to prepare for upcoming drainage works. Some trimming of overhanging tree branches will be required in Lorne Parade for the safe passage of machinery to our work sites.

Windsor Crescent

Intermittent lane closures and traffic management may be required on Windsor Crescent for large vehicles to access Surrey Hills Station south car park and Lorne Parade Reserve.

Sunbury Crescent and Robinson Road

Sewer and drainage works are ongoing on Sunbury Crescent and Robinson Road. Road closures and local detours will be in place for this work. Access to Coles Local basement car park will be maintained via Union Road.

Stirling Crescent

Road closures, local detours and traffic management will continue on Stirling Crescent while sewer and drainage works are undertaken. Please follow directions from traffic management.

Surrey Park

Trucks and machinery will be operating at the Surrey Park storage site throughout June. We will also build new driveways at the site entrance and exit.

A ‘no stopping’ zone has recently been put in place on Standard Avenue during construction hours, 7am and 6pm Monday to Saturday, and while 24-hour works are undertaken. This will include 24-hour works in July.

Upcoming night work in June 

Most of the work will take place during the day between 7am and 6pm Monday to Saturday however we will need to work outside of these times, as follows:

  • From Friday 1 July to Friday 8 July 2022, crews will work around the clock on Union Road near the level crossing to prepare the area for large crane foundations. 
  • From Friday 8 July until Monday 25 July, we’ll work 24/7 at each of the level crossings. 

Rail disruptions

From 8:30pm on Friday 8 July to last service on 24 July, buses will replace trains on sections of the Lilydale and Belgrave lines. For further information please visit bigbuild.vic.gov.au

Road and pedestrian disruptions 

Traffic management and local detours will be in place to safety guide vehicles and pedestrians around work areas. Pedestrian access to properties will be maintained at all times.

Details

Union Road

From Friday 1 July to Monday 15 August:

  • Union Road will be closed to vehicles between Croydon Road and Windsor Crescent. Access to Bedford Avenue will be maintained via Montrose Street. Robinson Road will be closed at the underpass during this time.
  • The pedestrian crossing and pedestrian underpass at Union Road will be closed. Pedestrian access across the rail line will be maintained via the underpass at Surrey Hills Station.

Mont Albert Road

From Friday 8 July to Monday 25 July:

  • Mont Albert Road will be closed to vehicles between Gordon Street and Leopold Crescent.
  • The pedestrian crossings at Mont Albert Road will be closed. Pedestrian access across the rail line will be maintained via the underpass at Mont Albert Station. There will be ongoing lane closures, overnight closures, and a further week-long closure in August on Mont Albert Road

Localised road closures

Road closures, with local access only, will remain in place in the following streets during these works:

  • Lorne Parade
  • Sunbury Crescent
  • Stirling Crescent
  • Beresford Street
  • Wilson Street
  • Montrose Street

Robinson Road will be closed from Friday 1 July to Monday 15 August.

On Churchill Street, the existing eastbound lane closure will remain in place between Stanhope Street and Elgar Road. Access to properties will be maintained via the westbound lane from Elgar Road. Temporary road closures will be required at times.
