One of Australia’s microchip registry companies has stopped operations.
Animal Welfare Victoria have stated that Homesafe ID is no longer an approved domestic animal (microchip) registry. Microchip registries that accept records for cats or dogs microchipped in Victoria must be licensed with the department.
If your pet’s microchip was registered with HomeSafe ID, you will be contacted with further information shortly.
For any enquiries, please contact das@agriculture.vic.gov.au
What this means for your pet (if their microchip is listed with HomeSafe)
The HomeSafeID registry is now offline. This means if your cat or dog goes missing, the contact details on the microchip will not be available.
If your pet is registered with HomeSafeID, you will need to change your microchip registration to another company.
What you need to do
- Find your pet’s microchip number.
o This can be found on your registration renewal letter, or via your vet. - Check your pet’s microchip registration at the Pet Address website
o This will show you where your cat’s microchip is registered. If will tell you which register your pet is registered with. - If your pet is not with HomeSafe, you do not need to do anything
- If your pet IS with HomeSafe, you are encouraged to immediately change providers.
