The southern car park at Surrey Hills Station (off Windsor Crescent) is now closed and from Monday 14 February, the northern car park will close.

Works taking place

The southern car park at Surrey Hills Station (off Windsor Crescent) is now closed to allow to crews to safely undertake works.

Over the next two weeks from Monday 7 February, crews will:

  • Continue ongoing vegetation removal to make way for service relocation works
  • Install fencing and hoarding around the car park
  • Undertake site investigation works
  • Adjust lighting and other services in the car park
  • Install traffic and parking signage on local streets

From 5am on Monday 14 February, the northern car park at Surrey Hills Station (off Bedford Avenue) will close. Following the closure of the northern car park, crews will establish the works area by undertaking vegetation removal, installing fencing, and completing site investigation works.

While the commuter car parks are closed, free alternative weekday parking will be available at Box Hill. Sign up at Commuter Ace Parking to allow you free exit and entry to Ace Parking at Box Hill. Terms and conditions apply.

The bike storage facility at Surrey Hills Station will remain open. Accessible car spaces are available at Canterbury Station.

At the conclusion of the project, the Level Crossing Removal Project will install extensive new landscaping with 52,000 new trees, shrubs and plants across the project. For every tree removed, at least two new trees will be planted in the local area.

For details about trees that are to be retained or removed, please refer to the notices and further information at levelcrossings.vic.gov.au

What to expect

From Monday 14 February, there will be no right turn access into Bedford Avenue for vehicles travelling northbound on Union Road. Changes to on-street parking on Montrose Street and Bedford Avenue will be in place to create safe passage for trucks on residential streets.

Temporary signage will be installed on local streets to create clearways for construction vehicles. Reduced speed zones will also be implemented.

  • Some trimming of overhanging tree branches in local streets is required for the safe passage of machinery to our work sites.
  • Other impacts of these works include:
  • Some construction noise and activity, with vehicles, machinery and workers on site
  • Minor delays for vehicles
  • Minor changes to pedestrian routes
  • Increase in construction vehicles on local streets
  • Traffic management to keep you and our workers safe
