Image-based abuse

Image-based abuse is when someone shares, or threatens to share, an intimate image or video of a person without their consent.

By sharing an intimate image or video of yourself with one person that doesn’t give them permission to share it with anyone else or let others see it. Image-based abuse is sometimes called ‘revenge porn’. Another type of image-based abuse is sexual extortion or ‘sextortion’ where the perpetrator blackmails the victim into sending money.

If someone shares or threatens to share an intimate image or video of you, the eSafety Commissioner can help have the content removed or stop the threats.
