Ballyshannassy Park, Burwood East  

Council has acquired a 535m² lot at 467 Highbury Road to strategically expand public open space and improve access at the constrained park entrance.

Warrawong Annex, Blackburn South  

We are excited to welcome the Vermont Men’s Shed to this underutilised site (32 Richmond Street), where they will share the facility with the Forest Hill Woodturners while we scope long-awaited potential upgrades. I acknowledge this change necessitates a venue transition for our regular short-hire bookings. This includes the Victorian Game and Deerstalking Association as well as the Eley Park Artists group, which have anchored a vibrant social and art community here since 1995 – thank you!

Listening to residents on heritage  

Council recently considered the Draft 2024 Heritage Study. We heard from numerous passionate speakers both forand against. After hearing from residents concerned about the potential financial and personal consequences of their home being included in the process, Council resolved to remove some potential heritage homes from the planning process that would have considered applying a heritage overlay.

Keeping our parks clean

While dedicated volunteer groups such as the Friends of Wurundjeri Walk do incredible work and SnapSendSolve helps us target dumped rubbish, Council is also driving innovative ways to keep maintenance costs down. Following Council's decision to expand our partnership with Corrections Victoria, supervised teams are now more regularly collecting litter and removing graffiti. 

Next time you are caught in traffic on Middleborough Road near the RSPCA’s sheep paddock, look out at the chain fenceline – that's one of the newer sites added to the cleaning schedule.
