Whitehorse News - October 2023
It can be confusing figuring out what fast-food packaging can be recycled and what can’t. |
Pizza lovers are used to putting their empty boxes into their general rubbish bins, mainly because the grease stains didn’t make them recyclable.
But that’s now changed – Whitehorse residents can now put their pizza boxes into their recycling bins (yellow lid) after our service provider, Visy, unveiled new equipment.
Visy has started using a drum pulper system with advanced paper recycling technology, allowing it to accept pizza boxes. Even if there are grease stains or a few crumbs in the box, the recycling process will remove this. Just remember to remove any pizza crusts or scraps of food from the box before adding it to your household recycling.
The 100 per cent recycled paper will then be remade into corrugated packaging for pizza boxes, the agricultural sector and some of Victoria’s favourite food and beverage brands.
