Nominations for the Whitehorse Sport and Recreation Awards for 2025 have now closed.
The Whitehorse Sport and Recreation Awards celebrate the hard work and dedication of local athletes, sporting clubs, recreational groups and their volunteers across the City of Whitehorse.
These awards recognise the important contribution our clubs and groups make to the community, celebrate the outstanding achievements of their members, and acknowledge excellence in club management and the vital efforts of volunteers behind the scenes.
The 2025 award winners were announced at the invitation-only event held in October and are listed below.
Award Winners
All nominations were assessed by the Whitehorse Sport and Recreation Network.
Award winners were announced at our exclusive awards ceremony, a special invitation-only event for all nominees and their nominators, held at The Round in October 2025.
Award Categories
There were 13 award categories in 2025, recognising clubs, groups, teams and individuals across a wide range of contributions, including:
- Participant of the Year – a person over the age of 18, with outstanding sport and recreation achievements, demonstrated sportsmanship and given back to the community.
- Junior Participant of the Year (under age 18 as at 1 July 2024) – a person under age of 18, with outstanding sport and recreation achievements, demonstrated sportsmanship and given back to the community
- Participant of the Year with a Disability– a person who has a disability with outstanding sport and recreation achievements, demonstrated sportsmanship and given back to the community.
- Masters Participant of the Year – a person who participates in the master’s section as defined by their activities’ guidelines or are aged over 40 as of 1 July 2025. With outstanding sport and recreation achievements, demonstrated sportsmanship and given back to the community
- Team of the Year - This category is open to a team or defined section who participate in a sport, recreation or leisure activity, with outstanding sport and recreation achievements – not the whole club.
- Official of the Year - A person who officiates a sporting or recreational event. Such as umpires and referees etc.
- Volunteer of the Year - A person over the age of 18, who provides a service to a club/group/activity for which they are not paid. Volunteers can include committee members, group leaders, etc.
- Junior Volunteer of the Year (under age 18 as at 1 July 2025) - A person under 18, who provides a service to a club/group/activity for which they are not paid. Volunteers can include committee members, group leaders, etc.
- Coach/Leader of the Year - A person who is in a position of leading a team or group in a non-participating capacity, without remuneration. Examples can include a sporting team coach or a Scout/Guide section leader.
- Sports Club of the Year - a club who participates in an organised sporting activity within the City of Whitehorse with outstanding on and off field achievements.
- Women in Community Leadership Award - A female volunteer (not paid) who has made a significant contribution in the local sport, recreation and leisure industry whilst holding a position of leadership such as president, coach, leader or official.
- Recreation Group of the Year – a group or club who participate in an activity which is NOT classified as organised sport. Examples include Scouts, Guides, Model Boat.
- Sport and Recreation Initiative of the Year - Initiatives are deliberate activities that achieve positive outcomes for the Whitehorse community through sport and recreation. Initiatives may encourage participation in a sport or activity to a person or persons who traditionally do not participate, support community members to connect with each other, raise awareness for important causes or promote healthy lifestyles for individuals.
