It’s time to nominate a young high achiever

14 Dec 2017

Do you know an outstanding young person who lives, works or studies in Whitehorse and deserves official recognition for high achievement?

Whitehorse Councillor Andrew Munroe said now was a good time to nominate a worthy recipient for Council’s Young Person of the Month Award for 2018.

“The awards celebrate the efforts of local young people and their contributions to the community. The recognition is a wonderful way to encourage young people to build on their strengths and to pat them on the back for commitment to a chosen field, Cr Munroe said.

Award recipients join a long list of outstanding, motivated young people who have contributed widely to the Whitehorse community,” Cr Munroe said.

This month’s Young Person of the Month is Michaela Clare-Cover, a Year 12 student at Koonung Secondary College. Michaela has displayed academic excellence, commitment to extra-curricular sport activities and has taken leadership roles in fundraising events for a range of causes.

Monthly winners receive a JB Hi-Fi voucher in recognition of their achievements and feature in a story published in Council’s monthly newspaper, the Whitehorse News.

The award is also a great achievement for young people to include in their resume as they set off on a career path.

Award winners next year will go into the running to be named as Whitehorse Young Citizen of the Year for 2019, which is announced as part of Whitehorse City Council’s Australia Day celebrations.

Families, teachers, youth service professionals, local schools, universities, community groups and individuals can nominate young achievers in Whitehorse. Nominees must be younger than 27 years old on 26 January 2019.
