Getting ready for kinder: Free health check

13 Jul 2017

Council’s Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Service offers a free visit for 3 ½ year old children to ensure they are given the best start to kinder and school.

Whitehorse Councillor Tina Liu said this was the final visit in a family’s journey through the MCH program which began with a home visit after baby’s birth from a MCH Nurse.

“This last visit is a wonderful opportunity to speak to the nurse about any concerns you have regarding your child’s readiness to begin formal education. The nurse can refer you to other services if needed, or simply reassure you that your child will most likely thrive at kinder,” Cr Liu said.

This consultation will focus on:

  • your Parents' Evaluation of Development Status (PEDS) questions in your My Health, Learning and Development Record (try to complete these questions before the visit)
  • kindergarten enrolment and preparing for school
  • helping your child eat healthy food, taking care of their teeth and assessing their vision
  • sun safety, water safety and how play helps learning and development
  • family relationships and wellbeing
  • immunisations
