Congratulations to the annual Food Premises of the Year winners

6 Feb 2019

Three local businesses have joined an exclusive club of annual winners to take out Council’s prestigious 5 Star Food Hygiene Assessment (FHA) program.

The 2018 winners are:

  • Mecwacare Simon Price Centre at 13-25 Strabane Avenue, Mont Albert North (winner in Class 1 – hospitals, aged care premises etc)
  • Zagar’s Charcoal Grill at 9 Royton Street, Burwood East (winner in Class 2 –restaurants, cafés, take-aways, delicatessens, bakeries etc)
  • Nunawading Christian College Primary Campus at 161 Central Road Nunawading (winner in Class 3 – community groups)

Whitehorse Mayor Councillor Bill Bennett said all three businesses had demonstrated a commitment to the highest safety standards in food handling and hygiene.

“This is a great outcome for the winners as these awards recognise and honour  the hard work that goes into staying up-to-date with safe food handling practices, training staff and constantly monitoring the premises’ food handling and storage practices,” Cr Bennett said.

The aim of the FHA program is to improve the safety of food being manufactured, handled, stored and sold in the municipality. The program educates businesses involved in food handling, assesses their compliance with documented standards and rewards businesses that demonstrate best practice in food safety.
