The Whitehorse Centre Season 2019 was launched yesterday revealing a line-up of powerful performances by some of Australia's most respected theatre companies and loved stars of stage and screen.
Whitehorse Councillor Andrew Munroe praised Season 2019 – with the theme of “Grace” – for offering something for the whole community, with a program containing everything from drama to circus, jazz to comedy.
“The Season starts with a trip down memory lane with a very funny musical homage to the ABBA years. You will also experience much-loved classics and new works covering musical theatre, cabaret, drama and a Stephen Sondheim masterpiece, and that’s just for starters,” Cr Munroe said.
“As always, there’s beautifully produced children’s shows and exclusive to the Whitehorse Centre is Sydney Theatre Company’s ever-popular Wharf Revue. I am really looking forward to another year of brilliant
theatre right on my doorstep.”
Highlights of Season 2019 include:
ABBA-solutely Fabulous. Rhonda Burchmore and Lara Mulcahy will delight with their irresistible humour and spectacular singing whilst reminiscing about growing up as quintessential ABBA fans.
Circa’s Peepshow. From the thrillingly acrobatic to the comically playful, expect teetering towers of balanced bodies, extreme bending and devilishly precarious aerials from the internationally renowned Circa’s talented ensemble.
Two. There are secrets, passion, jealousy and lots of laughter in this show where Australian stage and TV talents Brian Meegan and Kate Raison play 14 colourful characters set in the local pub.
The Gospel According to Paul. One of Australia’s favourite performers, Jonathan Biggins, is Paul Keating – visionary, reformer and rabble-rouser – in this highly anticipated new comedy.
The Sapphires. A funny, heart-warming musical play inspired by the true story of four Yorta Yorta Women, who find themselves performing against the backdrop of the Vietnam War.
Sunday in the Park with George. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, this musical is inspired by Georges Seurat’s Impressionist painting.
The Wharf Revue 2019. The all-singing, all-dancing, side-splittingly funny solution to the world’s problems returns for another year of satirical genius. Starring Drew Forsythe and Simon Burke.
Children’s shows this year feature Billionaire Boy, based on the book by master storyteller David Walliams and suitable for children 6-12 years, Children are Stinky, an award-winning comedy for children 3-10 years by Circus Trick Tease and Possum Magic, based on the Australian classic by Mem Fox and Julie Vivas and perfect for children 3-8 years.
The priority booking period for subscriptions is now open. Those who subscribe in the next few weeks have the advantage of selecting their choice of shows before individual ticket sales open to the public on Monday 7 January 2019.
