Whitehorse shoppers have the opportunity to win one of three gift cards this month, each worth $100, when they nominate their favourite local business.
Whitehorse councillor Prue Cutts said there were three gift cards to give away each month between November 2018 and February 2019, thanks to Council’s Think Local Buy Local campaign.
“This successful campaign reminds the Whitehorse community of the many benefits of buying their goods and services locally, and the chance to win a gift card can help residents during the festive season and at the post-season sales,” Cr Cutts said.
“By shopping locally you’ll enjoy a personalised shopping experience, receive friendly advice and have the opportunity to purchase something unique. You’ll also make a significant, positive impact to the local economy.”
During November, all shoppers have to do to be in the running to win a gift card is nominate their favourite Whitehorse business and tell us why it is special. Each month, a new question will be asked.
“This is a great way for Council to receive the names of valued Whitehorse businesses and get an insight into what the community looks for when shopping locally, while giving participating residents a reward,” Cr Cutts said.
“It is eye-opening to realise that, when you spend $100 at a small, local business, an estimated $68.77 stays in the local community. $100 spent at a chain or franchise store in the local area means an estimated $51.24 stays in the local community. Spending the same amount at an online store means that just an estimated $2.50 stays in the local community.”
